FedEx Hire Felons – Getting a Job

This is not a company where you are going to be able to apply one day and get hired the next. FedEx won’t be rushed when it comes to hiring people. They’re a good company and it’s definitely worth the effort – but it isn’t going to happen overnight.

Applying For A Job

Like a lot of companies these days you can only apply for job with FedEx online. From what we’ve seen FedEx only really hire people for driving jobs who have experience. So if you want to apply for a delivery job you need to have experience as a delivery driver. You don’t have to have worked for a courier company before. But if you haven’t got any experience at all doing that job, then this is probably not the best place to start.

Take your time filling in the application and double check it before you hit send. They will reject people who haven’t filled it out properly. Make sure you spell everything correctly. Make sure you’ve answered all the sections you need to. And of course, make sure you tell them about any previous experience you have.

The Job Interview

If you send a good application and they like it, you will be contacted. What happens next depends on the job you’re applying for. They’ll either want to do a telephone interview first, or just bring you in for a face to face interview.

Interviews For Manual Jobs

FedEx hire felons to be package handlers and loaders. If you are applying for a manual handling job, you’ll just be called in for a face to face interview. It usually starts with you being shown around the depot.

But just because you are not sitting around a desk for this part of it, that doesn’t mean you are not being interviewed. First impressions matter. As you are getting to know what they do they are looking to get a good impression of you.

A lot of people make the mistake of not being engaged during this part of the process. You can use this as a chance to make yourself more appealing than 90% of the other people applying for the job. Ask questions and look interested. You want to impress them. You want to make them believe you’re interested in what they do. It might be the difference between getting a job with FedEx or not.

There are some questions they nearly always ask in interviews for manual handling jobs. So think about how you’re going to answer.

Are you aware that there is some heavy lifting in this job?

Let them know you know the right way to lift heavy objects. Keep your back straight, bend your knees and lift with your legs.

Can you lift weights of 75lb?

If you’ve got a bad back and you injure it lifting a heavy object you’re going to make life worse for yourself. Plus, you’re not going to get to keep the job anyway. If you try to sue them they’ll just look at your medical records and know you had a pre-existing condition. I know you want the job but it’s not worth lying.

Interviews For Courier and Driving Jobs

Fedex hire felons to be couriers but you have to have experience. When you apply for a courier or driving job it takes a bit more time than other jobs – they want to get the right people. The first thing FedEx will do is call you for a quick telephone interview. Once you get through the telephone interview you’ll have a couple of face to face interviews.

You will need to tell them more about your driving experience. You’ll also have to demonstrate how competent you are as a driver. They’ll ask you questions about your past experience that give them an idea of how well you would deal with situations you might face if you worked with them. These will include things like…

Tell me about a time you worked in adverse weather conditions. How did you handle it?

Tell me about a time when you had to deal with a difficult situation. What did you do and how did the situation end?

Once you get through the interview you then have to pass a few tests.  You will need to pass a map reading test as well as a memory assessments. If you get through those they will send you for some medical checks. If you pass these and get the job you will go on the FedEx courier training course.

All this might seem like a lot of effort but the couriers and drivers are the frontline workforce for FedEx. They want to make sure they get people who will represent their company well.

Interviews For Customer Service Jobs

FedEx hire felons to do customer service jobs. They will probably ask you to do a telephone interview before you go for a face to face meeting.

During the call they will ask you questions about your experience and your background. They also want to get to know more about who you are as a person. So this is the time to show personality and enthusiasm.

Face to face interviews can either be one on one or in front of a small panel. Again, you need to show them you are an outgoing, positive and enthusiastic person. They will obviously ask questions to find out more about you. They will also ask how you would deal with certain situations or handle an unhappy customer.

Like couriers, customer service staff are in the front line. FedEx want to know that you will be a good representative. So you should spend a bit of time before the interview thinking about how you would answer the question “why do you want to work for FedEx?”

They want to see that you share the same values as FedEx. Why? Because they want to be sure that you will always give customers a good impression of the company. So, read about the FedEx company values and think about which of those values are important to you and why.

Interviews For Management jobs

FedEx hire felons for management jobs. But it depends on the felony and how long ago it was.

Everyone applying for a management job will have to do an assessment before they get an interview. This will test your knowledge of basic Math and English. The number of interviews you have to do will depend on the level of the job. If you are going for a high level job you should be prepared to give at least one presentation.

Interview questions will often be based around seeing how you would deal with different situations. So you will need to be able to think on your feet.
